That Spook-tacular time of year is coming around again, Not only can you smell the fireworks in the evening breeze, it's also becoming icy cold in the mornings and that familiar sound of leaves crunching under your boots is back.
This year I feel like Halloween isn't as big a deal as previous years... I haven't seen one decoration yet and I'm already seeing Christmas gifts in stores and lights up on the main shopping streets.. What is happening to the world?
Well fear not my friends, Via Serena isn't a place that's willing to give Halloween a skip, The buzz is very much alive and I thought it would be fitting to discuss some spooky, haunted runways...
John Galliano has always been a little nutty in his ways, But his 2006 Couture collection for Christian Dior really takes the cookie. Creating his own parallel universe on a Renaissance themed runway with blood red clouds swirling above, the collection was both surreal and theatrical with the models rocking a goth punk/ warrior look.
After seven years away, Gareth Pugh returned to London with a bang for fall 2015, creating a memorably haunting runway. The whole collection was designed with pagan rituals and self sacrifice in mind, This bleak, dramatic runway saw ladies marked with red crosses and carrying red flags as they strutted their stuff on the runway.
Many of Alexander McQueens runways are costume like and dramatic, but I thought I'd focus on his Fall 2009 collection which took high drama satires from the 20th century and reinvented them with his own Avant Garde Twist... the collection features parodies of the classic Chanel suit and Dior silhouettes, reinvented using things like garbage bags and aluminium cans, All in all this has to be one of the spookiest runway shows i've seen.
If your feeling a little drained of costume inspiration I think the above will help. What do you think of these freaky fashions? Do you remember any haunted runways that spooked you out over the years?
